Bergenia ‘Admiral’

A superb introduction from Rosemarie Eskuche circa 1970. It has thick, leathery, oval, upright, dark green leaves that turn an exceptional red-purple in winter, holding their own through prolonged frosts. In spring clusters of bright pink, drooping flowers open from dark red calyces, atop short pink-red stems held just above the foliage.

A good choice for the winter garden or a container. However, there are much finer winter foliage selections. Available from Beth Chatto Plants and Gardens and other specialist nurseries.
