Bergenia ‘Bressingham Ruby’
One of the finest and well known cultivars introduced by Adrian Bloom of Bressingham Gardens in 1982. It forms a tight mound of glossy, dark green, spoon shaped leaves with a slightly toothed margin. In winter, the foliage turns a deep, dark burgundy on the upper leaf surface and crimson red on the lower leaf surface, lasting well through the frosts. Deservedly popular for its hardiness and winter colour, it produces vibrant, deep rose-pink flowers in clusters atop a branching red-pink stem in spring.
Commonly available and well worth growing. Adrian once described it as having the most colourful leaves he had ever seen in a Bergenia.
