Bergenia ‘Carmen’
A Rosemarie Eskuche introduction with large, round, glossy, dark green leaves that look like they have been varnished. Strong, sturdy, red-pink stems carry deep purple-red flowers held in liver red calyces in spring.
The leaves are reminiscent of B. cordifolia but much improved while the flowers are similar to B. 'Eroica' but more open. Unfortunately it is rarely offered in the UK but can be found in specialist nurseries in Europe and UK collections.
