Bergenia ciliata ssp. ciliata
Found growing in the mother beds at Kwekerij De Hessenhof, this is a unique form of B. ciliata with strongly textured, bright green, rounded leaves, which are coarsely hairy on the upper leaf surface and margin, and softer and more sparse on the lower leaf surface. The venation is deeply depressed, adding to the textural interest. A unique feature not usually seen in the species is the slightly overlapping basal lobes that appear to slowly open with age. Very early white flowers blushed pink can be affected by frost and may be better appreciated if grown under cover.
No longer sold by Hans and Miranda, it can be viewed in the mother beds at the nursery.
