Bergenia emeiensis C.Y. Wu ex J.T. Pan
First collected in 1935 on Mt Omei (Emeishan), Sichuan, China, but remaining undescribed until 1988. It was introduced into western cultivation by Mikinori Ogisu in 1982 and distributed by renowned plantsman Roy Lancaster.
Arguably, the finest of all Bergenia, it has a graceful habit with dark green strap-like leaves from which emerge the most beautiful, and delicate, white flowers in early spring. It is considered to be tender, although can be grown in the open ground. Flowers may be affected by early frosts.
This is an original emeiensis clone gifted to Cambridge University Botanic Garden by Roy.
