Bergenia ‘Godfrey Owen’

A smaller leaved purpurascens raised and named by the extraordinary plantswoman Margaret Owen in honour of her husband. It has superb winter colour - the apple green leaves turning a brilliant shade of red-brown and lasting for many months. It is a strong and vigorous grower with an attractive habit that can add serious interest late in the year.

Not to be confused with B. purpurascens 'Irish Crimson' which has a much neater and upright habit with a more narrow apex and distinctly crenate-dentate margin.

Not commonly available but not impossible to find. Beeches Nursery and Stone Cottage Garden and Nursery are the only currently known stockists but it does occasionally pop up at Plant Fairs and can be found in specialist collections.
