Bergenia hissarica Boriss.

A Central Asian species native to the W. Hissar mountain range in south east Uzbekistan. It was named by the female Soviet botanist Antonina Borissova in 1954 who records it growing along the River Tupalang and River Shatrut. The description from Yeo comes from the description of the lectotype from Gontscharov from 1938. Yeo describes it as similar to B. stracheyi, varying from broadly to narrowly obovate with a rather extreme base that is sometimes cordate. The petiole length and form of the inflorescence is said to resemble B. pacumbis but there is little research on this as the species has not been studied in great detail since it was discovered. Herbarium specimens from a 1995 collection are held in The Gatersleben Herbarium and can be viewed online. Yeo notes that an aberrant form of B. stracheyi grows in Uzebkistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Further research into the species is required to determine its distinctiveness.
