Bergenia ‘Pinneberg’
A very fine cultivar raised by Wilhelm Kikillus in Germany in the second half of the 20th century. It has an erect habit with bright apple green, spoon-shaped leaves, with a pink margin and prominent pink petiole, that turn a fiery orange-red in the autumn. Small carmine-red flowers held in red calyces atop stout pink-green stems appear in spring. Best grown for its foliage.
Not often seen in cultivation in the UK and very rarely, if ever, available to buy here. Sold by a select few nurseries in Germany. It can be found in a small number of specialist collections.
