Bergenia ‘Purpurglocken’

A distinctive cultivar for its deep, dark pink-purple flowers that form an attractive cluster and droop elegantly atop tall green stems. A subtle white streak from the base to the middle of the petals adds another rather lovely dimension to them, a feature not often seen in other varieties. The richness of the flowers really stands out against the apple green foliage. It would make an excellent cut flower.

The name translates to purple bells in English. It was thought lost to cultivation but I discovered it being sold at Cally Gardens. Very rarely available otherwise. Introduction attributed to Georg Arends from 1971.
