Bergenia sp.

Found growing in Battleston Hill at RHS Wisley, this unnamed species has round, slightly sinuous, dark green leaves that are reminiscent of Bergenia cordifolia. The margin is denticulate and blushed pink when young becoming less distinct with age. Superb winter foliage colour, turning a rich purple-red. Flowers are yet to be observed.

There is no known provenance information. It isn’t listed in the RHS Wisley Bergenia Trials Report 2007-2009 where a lot of new Bergenia plants entered the garden.
