Bergenia sp. Nepal

Found growing in the mother beds at De Hessenhof in the Netherlands, this species is likely to be a form of B. stracheyi. It has elongated dark green foliage, rounded at the apex and tapered, or cuneate, at the base with quite a unique sparsely ciliate margin, crenate-dentate but is folded in and especially sharp. A vigorous grower with highly attractive white flowers held in apple green calyces atop a red-pink stem.

Deserving of a name but further study required. Provenance unknown. It is available from Viva I Priola and De Hessenhof in Europe. Not available in the UK but can be found in specialist collections.
