Bergenia thysanodes
A synonym of Bergenia ciliata first published in the New Flora & Silva 4: 136 in 1932. A plant under this name has been found in the mother beds at Kwekerij de Hessenhof. It has exceptionally hairy, rounded to ovate leaves with a distinctive pointed apex and red fringed margin. All leaf parts, including lamina, margin and petiole are covered in a thick mat of soft, long, white hairs.
No information available on provenance. Although the name should be considered a synonym, the morphological characteristics of this plant requires further investigation as it has a similar leaf shape to Bergenia pacumbis. It may be a hybrid of both species.
