Bergenia tianquanensis J.T. Pan
The latest species to be described by J. T. Pan in 1994. It has unique, leathery, obovate leaves with a dentate margin, partly ciliate at the base, with long, soft hairs on the petiole. Reddish flowers appear in late spring between May-June. It is found in rock crevices at 2200 - 3300m and is endemic to the Tianquan Xian in Central Sichuan, China.
The species has been sold in the UK by Beeches Nursery but is no longer in circulation. A plant under this name was growing at NTS Greenbank Garden but the application of this name is incorrect. It is very rare in cultivation. If it is growing in the UK I would welcome any information, including photos, that could be shared.
