Bergenia ‘Wintermärchen’
One of the best dwarf Bergenia with narrow, pointed, upright, spoon-shaped, dark green, leathery leaves reaching 30cm tall. In winter, the leaves are flushed red, turning scarlet in the right light, the more sun the better the winter colour. In spring, red stems carry loose clusters of deep rose-pink flowers well above the foliage. Late flowering thus generally a good doer in areas prone to frost.
The perfect border edge plant, noted for its neat and tidy habit and resistance to winter frost. Available from specialist nurseries across the UK. The German name translates to 'Winter’s Tale'.
Height: 30cm; Spread: 50cm
