Bergenia x smithii ‘Distinction’

A Thomas Smith variety from c.1885 raised at Daisy Hill Nursery. It has a dwarf crowded habit with small, rounded, dark green leaves that have a denticulate margin, blushed a soft delicate pink. The leaves are formed on short petioles. It is noted for producing enormous heads of small, pale pink flowers on tall stems in spring.

It can still be found in cultivation, growing in specialist collections and gardens, though is very rarely available for sale.
